Vegan dessert with simple ingredients
We know Mirabelle dumplings from our times before becoming vegan and are now all the happier that we can also enjoy them in a vegan version.
Sweet dumplings are great if you spended a day outside and make it cozy for you later on. For those kind of days also nougat dumplings are great to share with family and friends.
Dumplings are very popular with us, especially in the colder months of the year, and are therefore often served.
It is all the more important that we have a little variety. We have already put a very good selection of different dumpling recipes on the blog for you. Bread dumplings are very popular with Madeleine in the family.
But you will also find the potato dumplings half and half or with completely smooth dumpling dough in this recipe post.
We make our version for vegan mirabelle dumplings with vegan quark. You and especially critics will not taste the difference!
How to prepare vegan Mirabelle dumplings:
You mix together a smooth batter from simple ingredients. The basis here is a vegetable quark.
Leave the finished dough to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Now you can bring the water to the boil. For this you should use a large enough pot and enough water so that the dumplings can swim well in it.
In the meantime, you can wash and pit the mirabelle plums. Divide the dough between the 25 mirabelle plums and flatten each one a little. Then put an mirabelle and some sugar in the middle.
If your apricots are very ripe and sweet, you can do without more sugar in the filling, otherwise we recommend adding some cinnamon together with some sugar for the perfect taste of the filling.
Now shape the dumplings well into round dumplings and make sure that the mirabelles are no longer visible.
Then you can gradually add them to the no longer bubbling (!) water.
When the dumplings are done they will rise and float on the surface. Now you can simply take them out with a skimmer or pour them off.
The finish for the delicious dumplings is the mixture of breadcrumbs, ground almonds and sugar. These are roasted together in a pan and the dumplings are tossed in it just before serving.
Of course you can also leave out this crust and serve a sauce with your vegan Mirabelle dumplings. But we like them best like this!
The plum dumplings are a great gluten-free alternative. You can use the plum dumpling dough and fill it with mirabelles. It consists of potatoes and is therefore a great option for your gluten-free diet.
Vegan mirabelle dumplings
- 400 g vegan quark alternative
- 80 g vegan butter
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 320 g of flour
- 150 g soft wheat semolina
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 25 small mirabelles
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 6 tbsp canola oil
- 50 g breadcrumbs
- 20 g ground almonds
- For the dumpling dough, put the quark alternative in a bowl. Melt the butter and mix with the quark together with the lemon juice.
- Add the flour, semolina, 1 tbsp sugar and salt and knead into a smooth dough. The dough should still be a little sticky.
- Cover and leave to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- After the dough has cooled down, put water in a large saucepan.
- Wash and stone the mirabelles.
- Divide the dough into 25 pieces. Flatten a portion of dough in your hand, put an mirabelle on top and sprinkle with some sugar and cinnamon. Then close the dumpling tightly.
- When the water is boiling, reduce the heat to allow the dumplings to simmer. It should no longer boil bubbling.
- Put the dumplings in the water and leave to stand for 17 minutes. They should float to the surface by the end of cooking.
- When the dumplings are cooked through, drain the water.
- Heat the rapeseed oil in a pan and toast the breadcrumbs, almonds and 1 tablespoon of sugar in it.
- Place the dumplings in the pan and toss in the breadcrumbs.
